Senator Dino Melaye, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the Kogi-West Senatorial District rerun election, has vehemently rejected the results of the Saturday election.
Melaye who described the results announced by INEC as “fictitious results” spoke during a press conference in Abuja yesterday.
He accused Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and his opponent Senator Smart Adeyemi of using violence to frustrate electorate in his stronghold.
“Three people were shot and two died; four people were killed in Lokoja; seven were killed in the eastern part of the state; this is the record we have so far, apart from those who sustained gunshot wounds and those who were ‘macheted’ and all that,” Melaye said.
“We are waiting to see what INEC will do. But I reject in totality these fictitious results. I, Dino Melaye, won that election in the afternoon and the APC won it at night,” he added.
He further expressed shock that INEC despite the violence that marred the election went ahead to recognize it.
Senator Melaye said that thugs terrorized voters at his hometown, Aiyetoro, leading to the death of his nephew, Olajuwon.
