Edo APC crisis worsen as faction suspends National Chairman Oshiomhole

Governor Godwin Obaseki and his predecessor, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole

A faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State on Tuesday suspended the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

Oshiomhole’s suspension came as the APC announced the suspension of the Edo State Chairman, Anselm Ojezua.

11 out of 16 members of the State Working Committee of the APC had passed a vote of no confidence on Ojezua before announcing his suspension. The committee further elected Col. David Imoise (rtd) to take charge of the party in the state.

As an apparent response, the Edo APC consequently suspended Oshiomhole and the state secretary, Lawrence Okah.

Following the suspension of the Edo State APC Chairman, Governor Godwin Obaseki quickly summouned an emergency meeting of APC leaders in the state.

It was at this meeting allegedly held at the Edo Government House that Oshiomhole’s suspension was announced after a vote of no confidence was passed in him and Okah.

After the meeting, Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to Obaseki on Media Strategy, announced that the; Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has removed the State Secretary of the party, Mr Lawrence Okah.”

“This is coming as party chairmen across the 18 local government areas of the state passed a vote of no confidence in the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole,” he added.

The LG chairmen revealed that they were taken in a commando-style to the secretary where they were forced to sign some documents, an insinuation vehemently denied by the LG chairmen of Etsako West, Etsako Central and Owan West; Ibrahim Akokia, Suleman Bagudu, and Lugard Alukpe respectively.

“We are the chairmen of the party in the 18 LGAs and we are not aware of the meeting where a vote of no confidence was passed in the national chairman of our party, Oshiomhole, who is doing very well. Oshiomhole remains our leader and we pass vote of confidence in his leadership.

“We call on the National Working Committee of the party to expel Obaseki from the APC because he is on a mission to destroy the APC in Edo State, but we will resist it,” they said.

Kenneth Asekomhe, the Edo APC deputy chairman, in his reaction said; “after the meeting of the State Executive Committee, in pursuant of Article 17, Section 5 of the APC  constitution of 2014, as amended, we have passed a vote of no confidence in the state secretary of the APC, Mr Lawrence Okah. He is hereby removed from office.

“The committee also passed a vote of confidence in the state chairman of the APC, Mr Anselm Ojezua.”
