Cairo Ojougboh, the Executive Director of Project, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has revealed that the commission owes over N3trillion to ghost contractors.
“The NDDC is owing over N3tn to phantom contractors. It is these contractors that are making this noise because they know the interim management will not compromise,” he said.
“The genuine contractors have not been paid while phantom contractors have been paid. Some of the contracts have been terminated but the contractors failed to return money,” he added.
He also revealed that a serving senator who is currently involved in the screening of the NDDC board was behind 300 contract jobs with the commission. He further alleged that 120 of the contract jobs have been fully paid for by the NDDC, yet the senator has not started work on the sites.
Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has vowed to audit the financial records of the commission.
Akpabio further setup a three-man interim committee to conduct a forensic audit report to ensure all contractors who were paid for undelivered projects account for the money they got.
He berated the commission, saying that huge amount in trillions had been given to the NDDC in the past year without anything on ground to show.
