N2.1billion Pension Fraud: EFCC grills Maina

Abdulrasheed Maina, the Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team

Abdulrasheed Maina, the Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, who was alleged to have siphoned N2.1billion, have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Report reaching Naija Buzz News reveals that he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday and was handed over to the EFCC. He is currently being grilled by the anti-graft. Here’s everything you need to know regarding Maina’s case.

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan had sacked Maina from office following the development. He left Nigeria over fear of prosecution, but however returned during President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term. Before his return, Maina in 2016 met with Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

A former Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, confirmed that he advised Malami to meet with Maina at his hideout abroad.

He once said that instead of accusing him of N2.1billion pension fraud, the Federal Government of Nigeria is supposed to pay him N159billion.

There are insinuations in some quarters that the reason why he is not being probed over the fraud was because he is a friend of the Buhari’s government.
