Bayelsa Speaker Isenah impeached, replaced with Obolo

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State

Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has been impeached.

Isenah was reportedly replaced with Monday Obolo, the lawmaker representing Southern Ijaw Constituency II.

Before his impeachment, tugs allegedly loyal to the Speaker invaded the Assembly and took away the mace. The invasion came following rumour of his planned resignation today.

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State had mounted pressure on Isenah to step down following the emergence of Douye Diri, as the PDP governorship candidate in the state.

Diri and Isenah are from same Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

The party had urged the speaker to step down so that power could be spread ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
