Rumour has it that the presidential cabal is after Osinbajo over his decisions as Acting President

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Report has it that the alleged cabal at the presidency is not happy with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over some of the decisions he took as Acting President when President Muhammadu Buhari was away.

According to The Punch, an unidentified source at the presidential villa revealed that the members of the cabal were angry with Osinbajo because of the confirmation of Ex-Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen; the removal of Lawal Daura as the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the free role of Obono Obla as the head of the Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Assets.

President Buhari had sworn in Justice Onnoghen as Acting CJN on November 10, 2016. He however did not submit his (Onnoghen) name to the senate for confirmation despite recommendation for his confirmation by the National Judicial Council.

As Acting President, Osinbajo forwarded Onnoghen’s name to the senate and eventually swore him in as the substantive CJN in March 2017.

Onnoghen was however eventually removed from office following his conviction by the Code of Conduct Tribunal for non asset declaration. Tanko Mohammed who is the most senior judge at the Supreme Court was consequently sworn-in as CJN.

Lawal Daura, the former DG of the DSS, was also removed by Osinbajo. He was replaced with Matthew Seiyefa in acting capacity. President Buhari removed Seiyefa after few weeks. There is rumour in some quarters that Daura is also a member of the cabal.

Regarding Obono-Obla, the source who confided in Punch noted that the cabal believed that he was allowed by Osinbajo to develop a life of his own in doing his job.

Naija Buzz News had on Wednesday reported how Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, alleged that Osinbajo had been rendered impotent, useless and irrelevant.
