Following attack on South African businesses in Nigeria by angry mob, MTN Nigeria has announced the closure of its offices nationwide.
The telecommunication film also advised its workers to stay at home pending when normalcy is restored.
Nigerians and other Africans have expressed disappointment over the killings of fellow black Africans by South Africans. The situation went out of hand following the circulation of a gruesome video showing attack on Africans and their businesses in the country.
Angry mobs have since taken advantage of the situation to destroy South African business in Nigeria, including Shoprite, MTN, DSTV. One of MTN’s offices in Abuja was attacked today.
The telecommunication company shutdown all its office, but however noted that its social media handles, mobile app and call centres will be available to customers.
“Dear customer, all MTN shops are closed today.
“You can reach us on call centre 180, Twitter @MTN180, Facebook @MTNloaded, email firstname.lastname@example.org, and chat on myMTN App,” MTN said earlier today.
Ferdi Moolman, the CEO of the South African Telecom company in Nigeria, had vehemently condemned the xenophobic attacks.
“MTN Nigeria strongly condemns hate, prejudice and xenophobia and reiterate our unequivocal condemnation of all violence,” the MTN CEO said.
