Soldiers of the Nigerian Army fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, North-East Nigeria, killed many terrorists during a gun battle in the Monguno area of the state.

The soldiers who were on patrol along Monguno-Mairari Gajiram area engaged the terrorists on Friday.

Three soldiers unfortunately lost their lives in the battle, while eight others sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to Col. Sagir Musa, the spokesman  of the army, the soldiers engaged the terrorists with “heavy volume of fire that neutralised many while a few escaped with gunshot injuries.”

Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, had already visited the wounded soldiers where they are receiving proper medical attention.

“The troops’ patrol team came in contact with the terrorists and recovered some weapons and equipment. Sadly, during the encounter, three of our gallant soldiers paid the supreme price while eight others sustained injuries. The bodies of the fallen heroes and those that sustained injuries have since been evacuated,” the army spokesman said.

“The wounded are being treated and are in stable condition. The highly motivated troops have continued combing the general area with a view to clear remnants of the hiding terrorists. The Chief of Army Staff and principal staff officers from the Army headquarters have visited the troops and those injured in action,” he added.
