Lagos Assembly to probe Ex-Governor Ambode for buying 820 buses without approval

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode visits President Muhammadu Buhari

The Lagos State House of Assembly has constituted a committee to probe the purchase of 820 buses by Ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State.

The State Assembly noted that the probe was important because it had rejected Ambode’s proposal of buying 5,000 buses for mass transit.

“In the 2018 and 2019 budgets, the state government proposed N24bn and N7bn respectively, but these were not approved.

“The state government still went ahead to import 820 buses at N7bn, and out of them, 520 are still awaiting clearance at the ports,” Gbolahan Yishawu, the member representing Eti Osa 2, said.

The lawmakers accused the ex-governor of using taxpayers money to buy buses without approval.

Ambode since leaving office has been facing series of accusations over his administrations activities. His home was raided last week by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Naija Buzz News also reported few weeks ago that the anti-graft accused him of having connection with 3 bank accounts frozen by the EFCC over N9billion fraud.
