Omoyele Sowore, the man spearheading the #RevolutionNow protests, has vehemently denied allegations that he met with foreign collaborators and received millions of dollars to overthrow the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija Buzz News had reported how the Department of State Services (DSS) told court that Sowore met with foreign collaborators in Dubai and other countries in a plot to overthrow the Buhari’s government and release Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiite).
Sowore who is the convener of the #RevolutionNow protest was arrested by the DSS on 3rd August ahead of the protest launch on August 5.
Mr. Sowore said that the DSS lied against him, adding that he never visited Dubai or the United Arab Emirate as alleged by the secret service.
According to him, the #RevolutionNow protest was to address the crises of corruption, maladministration, insecurity and mismanagement of the economy.
His lawyers noted that Sowore only mobilized Nigerians including students, youths, workers, market women, and oppressed people to influence the Federal Government, the 36 State Governments and 774 Local Governments to address the situation in the country.
He further revealed that he had provided his local and foreign bank account details to the DSS to show that he never received any money from anyone or organization for the purpose of overthrowing Buhari.
Sowore’s statement was contained in his affidavit filed on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja challenging his detention by the DSS.
