El-Zakzaky reveals he was kept in a well furnished house next to the Senate President’s residence since 2015

Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiites).

Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiite), while speaking in New Delhi, India, where he had gone for medical treatment revealed that he had freedom while in detention in Nigeria.

The Shiites leader who was seen in a viral video on social media speaking to an Indian man (apparently a journalist) revealed that he was kept in a well furnished house located very close to the residence of the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He further noted that he was free to move around the house but could however not go out of the house.

Comparing his over 3 years detention in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria and his few days stay in India, El-Zakzaky noted that he had more freedom in Nigeria, but he was cage like a criminal in India.

“I have been about four years in prison now; a house fully furnished. In fact, our next neighbour was the Senate President; a large house. I was free to move about.

“Similarly, when they moved me to Kaduna I was in the best area – government reserved area. It is a house fully furnished with large bedrooms and I was free. I have never been in detention with police there; in fact, the soldiers used to stay outside at the gate. That is what they have been doing. When we came here, we were put in prison.”

“I will definitely prefer another hospital. I was told that some Shi’ite Ulama came and said I should be allowed to be treated in India.”

“They said I am the one to take myself to hospital, not the government.  We bought our own tickets, the government people with us bought their own.”

“Somehow, when we came here, we learnt the embassy changed the story. We learnt the Nigerian government told them they are bringing in two patients charged with a criminal offence, and they also solicited the support of the Indian government for the security of these people; they also spoke with the hospital about what to do. And they claim they are the ones bringing us,” he added.

El-Zakzaky had travelled to the Medenta Hospital in India for medical treatment following Kaduna High Court permission. Naija Buzz News reported that he left for India last Monday with his wife alongside operatives of the DSS.

He returned few days later after unsuccessful medical treatment. According to him, the hospital in India refused to allow his personal doctor to join the medical team assigned to treat him. His group further accused the federal government of plotting to kill their leader in India.

The FG however accused the Shiite leader of having ulterior motives. The Nigerian Government in a statement through the Ministry of Information noted that El-Zakzaky had upon reaching India requested to be lodged into a 5 star hotel, adding that he also requested that his international passport be handed over to him. We further reported the secret plans the FG accused the Shiite leader of.
