El-Zakzaky discharges self from hospital, set to arrive Nigeria

Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiites).

Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (aka Shiite), has reportedly discharged himself from the hospital in New Delhi, India, where he had gone for medical treatment.

El-Zakzaky was flown to India on Monday alongside his wife, Zeenat, in company of operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

He was supposed to receive medical treatment following the deterioration of his health caused by pellets of bullet in his body.

A Kaduna State Federal High Court judge had granted him permission to travel to India to receive proper medical attention.

Few days after however, El-Zakzaky complained that he was being caged like a criminal in India. He noted that the security situation in the hospital was worse than the DSS detention centre where he was incarcerated for 4 years.

But the Federal Government in its response noted that El-Zakzaky had an ulterior motive. FG further revealed that he had requested for his passport at the hospital and that he had refused medical attention from doctors in the Medenta Hospital in New Delhi.

His group, the IMN, alleges that the Nigerian government’s interference and scuttling of the whole process rather than supervision as ordered by the court was the cause of the impasse. According to his group, the FG never wanted him to go on medical leave; consequently, it did everything possible to stop it by all means.
