1. El-Zakzaky rejected FG private jet, he travelled to India on commercial airline

Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the Leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) (aka Shiites), on Monday evening rejected the private jet provided by the Federal Government of Nigeria for his medical trip to India. The Shiites leader and his wife, Zeenat, flew Emirates instead.

The left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja around 7pm on Monday evening accompanied by some operatives of the Department of State Services and few family members.

Justice Darius Khobo of the Federal High Court Abuja had granted his permission to undergo treatment in New Delhi, India, as his health was already deteriorating due to the December 2015 attack on him and his followers by soldiers of the Nigerian Army in Zaria.

2. Nigerians spends N730billion on sports betting yearly

Report has it that Nigerians spend over N730billion annually on sports betting annually. The report revealed that at least 2billion is generated daily.

Over 60million Nigerian spend N3,000 daily to stake on about 50 various bet sites.

The research further revealed that 14million bet stakes and payments are made over the internet every day, apart from those made offline at betting shops around the country.

3. DHQ orders Army to produce fleeing kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu

The Defence Headquarters has ordered the 93 Battalion of the Nigerian Army to produce Alhaji Hamisu Wadume, the highly wanted kidnap kingpin who was released by soldiers of the battalion after killing 3 policemen and a civilian who had arrested him.

The highly trained policemen who had successfully completed many top deadly operations were shot dead by the soldiers at a check point along Idi-Jalingo Road while they were conveying the kidnap kingpin to the Police Command in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.

The DHQ ordered the battalion to produce Alhaji Hamisu as evidence that its soldiers were not responsible for Alhaji Hamisu’s escape.

4. Senator Sani says it is dangerous for the north to deny South-West power in 2023

Senator Shehu Sani, the former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has said that it would be unfair to deny the South-West presidency in 2023.

“The President should caution those from the North eyeing that position. Power needs to rotate to other regions. The South-West worked tirelessly to remove the PDP from office and helped to bring Nigeria to where it is today and deserves support from the North come 2023,” the senator said.

The ex-senator’s statement came as an apparent reaction to the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who suggested the abandonment of zoning arrangements for political offices and instead go with competence.

5. Obaseki visits Oshiomhole, says they have no quarrel

On Monday, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State visited his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole at his country home in Iyamho, Edo State.

The governor went to greet the APC National Chairman and his mother Hajia Aishetu Oshiomhole for Eid-El-Kabir.

The governor while speaking to reporters during the visit denied that he was quarreling with his predecessor.
