Governor Obaseki visits Oshiomhole, says they have no quarrel

Governor Godwin Obaseki and his predecessor, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole

On Monday, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State visited his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole at his country home in Iyamho, Edo State.

The governor went to greet the APC National Chairman and his mother Hajia Aishetu Oshiomhole for Eid-El-Kabir.

Despite the evidence of quarrel between the two, the governor on Sunday at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Benin during a mass organised to mark John Oyegun’s 80th birthday alleged that he had met with his predecessor and they have no issue. But he had earlier alleged that those who brought him to power were planning on removing him from office using lawmakers in the state.

“We have met – me and my predecessor in office – and fortunately, we do not have any fundamental issues. And because we do not have any fundamental issues, I believe that whatever third parties are trying to propagate I am sure we can talk over it. I assure you that very soon things will return to normalcy in Edo State,” Obaseki said.

The situation was believed to have forced the governor to allegedly plot the inauguration and ensure the election as principal officers 9 lawmakers loyal to him.

Chief John Oyegun, the Ex-National Chairman of the APC, had at his 80th birthday on Sunday said that nobody knows the cause of the disagreement between the governor and his predecessor.

But Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki’s aide on media, said the claims that the two were quarrelling was false.

“The notion that these two men are adversaries is being propagated by people seeking to profit from  the challenges they have been working so hard to foment. You cannot blame such people really. Their talents and abilities are severely limited, so it is in their collective interest to create  tension and drive division, but I can tell you that they have already failed.

“It is not in their interest for Edo State to progress, so they will try to twist the purpose of this visit. This is what they’ve always done and it’s their stock-in-trade.”
