Defence Headquarters orders Nigerian Army to produce fleeing kidnap kingpin

Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff

The Defence Headquarters has ordered the 93 Battalion of the Nigerian Army to produce Alhaji Hamisu Wadume, the kidnap kingpin who was released by soldiers of the battalion after killing 3 policemen who had arrested him.

The DHQ ordered the battalion to produce Alhaji Hamisu as evidence that its soldiers were not responsible for his escape.

President Muhammadu Buhari had last week ordered an investigation into the gruesome killing of the policemen.

Naija Buzz News last week reported how the Nigeria Police accused the soldiers of the Nigerian Army of killing 3 of their best officers (Inspector Mark Ediale, Sergeants Usman Danzumi, and Dahiru Musa), at a check point along Ibi-Jalingo Road in Taraba State.

The Army in its statement admitted to have killed the policemen, but however alleged that they thought they were kidnappers. The Army further blamed the Police for the confusion as no communication was made before the special operation to apprehend the highly wanted kidnap kingpin.

The Nigeria Police while responding to the Army however vehemently condemned the statement, saying that the army should provide Alhaji Hamisu who was on handcuff and leg chain when it soldiers attack and killed the policemen.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army had revealed that the captain who ordered the killing of the 3 policemen and a civilian in the vehicle conveying the kidnap kingpin to the Police Command Headquarter in Jalingo was cross-examined at the battalion in Taraba State.

The captain and his men after cross-examination in Taraba were reportedly moved to Abuja yesterday night.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police were already searching forests in Taraba State for Alhaji Hamisu whose whereabouts is yet unknown since the attack.

We reported how the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, directed his soldiers across the nation to avoid confrontation with any police officer and to travel in mufti and avoid wearing their uniforms over the incident.
