ISWAP/Boko Haram kills 8 in gun battle that lasted for hours

Fighters of the Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province on Saturday attacked a military base, killing 3 soldiers, and 5 civilians.

The incident happened in Gubio, about 100 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, North-East Nigeria.

The 3 heroes were killed as they repelled the attack by the terrorists who came in eight trucks with machine guns. Apart from those killed in the gunfire which lasted for about hours, two soldiers and six civilians were also injured.

The terrorists were successfully repelled as fighter jet was deployed to counter the attack.

The terrorist after hours of gun battle were eventually overpowered and forced to withdraw. Eleven of the terrorists were killed.

The Boko Haram insurgency has so far ravaged the North-East region of Nigeria (especially Borno State where Sambisa forest is located). It is believed that the headquarters of the terrorist organisation is in Sambisa.

The war has led to the death of 27,000 and millions made homeless.
