Ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has denied link in the alleged N9.9billion fraud under his administration.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had few days ago revealed that it froze 3 bank accounts linking to the former governor over N9.9billion fraud.
Ambode in his response to the allegation by the anti-graft says that none of his accounts contained the said amount. According to him, in a statement issued through his aide, Habib Aruna, earlier today, his record was clear.
The ex-governor further noted that they’ve not been any contact between him and the EFCC on the fraud case, but however wanted to clear his name on the issue.
He noted that the accounts ordered to be frozen by the court belong to the Government of Lagos State, not him or any other person.
Naija Buzz News had reported how the judge following an application by the EFCC ordered the 3 accounts domiciled in Zenith, Access and First City Monument Banks to be temporary frozen.
Read Ambode’s response to the EFCC below;
“Those accounts were opened in the course of normal operations by the Lagos State Government for its administrative purposes and not for the former governor’s personal transactions as was being wrongly insinuated and have been operated to ensure smooth operations of government activities by previous and present administrations.”
“The former governor was not and will never be involved in any unauthorized use of government property and resources.
“We strongly believe that after four demanding years as Chief Executive of Lagos State, Mr Ambode is entitled to some deserved rest with his family and loved ones without the unwarranted attacks on his well-earned reputation.”
