Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police who is the Commander of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), says that the Felix Adolije-led IRT who were killed by soldiers on Wednesday was one of the best and most highly trained police special forces in Nigeria.

Kyari noted that the officers were part of the team who rescued Alhaji Musa Umar, the District Head of President Muhammadu Buhari’s hometown, Daura, who was kidnapped at the front of his residence in May. Naija Buzz News reported how the police stormed the kidnappers hideout in Kano State and recued Alhaji Umar.

He also noted that the officers were part of the team that apprehended Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (aka Evans), a billionaire kidnapper.

The officers were also part of the team that arrested 22 Boko Haram terrorists who abducted over 200 Chibok schoolgirls in Borno State in 2014.

Inspector Felix Adolije and the 2 sergeants also participated in the arrest of Umar Abdulmalik, the North Central Commander of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

They rescued two American and two Canadian citizens who were kidnapped in Kaduna State and arrested the kidnappers.

It appears soldiers of the Nigerian Army might have killed 3 of Nigeria’s best, special, and highly trained police officers.

The Nigeria Police had in a statement on Wednesday evening accused soldiers of the Nigerian Army of killing the IRT team along Ibi-Jalingo Road, Taraba State.

According to the police, the officers on Tuesday were on their way to the Police Headquarter in Jalingo after a successful operation in which it apprehended a notorious kidnap kingpin identified as “Alhaji Hamisu”, when the soldiers open fire at them, killing 3 officers and a civilian.

The police further alleged that the soldiers also released the notorious kidnapper.
