Court orders National Assembly to halt plans of taking over Edo Assembly

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court Abuja has ordered the National Assembly to suspend its plan to take over the Edo State House of Assembly.

Taiwo gave the ordered following an application by the Government of Edo State challenging the decision of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the National House of Representatives to take over the State Assembly.

Naija Buzz News had last week reported the decision of the Senate led by Senator Ahmed Lawan, the Senate President, to take over the state assembly following crisis over the emergence of principal officers of the assembly.

Few weeks ago, we reported how 9 members of the assembly who are loyal to the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, were inaugurated and elected principal officers among themselves.

The problem however is that 15 of their colleagues were absent at the inauguration. The 15 lawmakers are allegedly loyal to Ex-Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who is currently the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Obaseki alleges that the 15 lawmakers were planted by Oshiomhole, who was his predecessor and political god-father, to impeach him from office.
