PDP must unite to ensure victory against APC – Ex-President Jonathan

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan during a book presentation in Rivers State

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has advised the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite ahead of the November 16 Governorship Election in the state.

Jonathan warned that a divided PDP would give the All Progressives Congress (APC) chance to take over the state.

“It is only our unity that can give us victory and if we are not united, they (apparently referring to the strongest opposition, APC) can get away with it. For example, it took the unity of the people of Rivers State, including women who were resolute against soldiers, to get the PDP victory in the state. If that had not happened, they would have taken it,” Jonathan said while speaking at the PDP Elders Advisory Council meeting held at the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The former president however noted that the opposition APC lacks the required political presence at ward, local government and state levels to win the forthcoming election. Consequently he noted that the PDP has everything required to win.

Jonathan also urged all PDP governorship aspirants and PDP leaders in the state to eschew rancour because just one person will eventually emerge after the party primary and all aspirants must work to ensure the person who emerges wins the November poll.

“For us to secure this state for PDP, we need maximum unity and that is why all the 21 aspirants are important to us; we must have that maximum unity and must not create any form of division or discrimination. At the end of the day, one person will emerge and all of us will work for whoever emerges as the candidate of the party,” he added.
