Afenifere says the government Osinbajo co-pilot is doing everything to break Nigeria

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-political group, in a response to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who said that “a break-up was not the solution to Nigeria’s problem”, accuses the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of making policies capable of breaking the country.

Naija Buzz News had published how Osinbajo, who is Buhari’s deputy, while delivering a lecture at the 70th Lagos Country Club on Tuesday, noted that the fact that a group of people speak same language and practice same religion does not mean they would live in harmony.

Osinbajo cited Sudan and Somalia who broke up and yet couldn’t resolve their problems.

However, Afenifere in its response to Osinbajo noted that the government in which he is a co-pilot is doing things that could lead to a break-up.

“What are they doing to prevent the break-up? The President said yesterday that Abiola would have solved ethnic and religious problem in Nigeria, why are they not solving it? Why are they doing all kinds of things that can divide the country?” the apex Yoruba group asked through its Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin.

The group accuses the federal government of treating Fulani herdsmen who kills people at will with kid-glove, but however proscribes other groups who have committed no terror.

Recently, the federal government declared the Shiites Islamic group a terrorist organization. We reported how the Shiites who were protesting against the incarceration of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, clashed with security agencies, leading to the death of Usman Umar, the Abuja Deputy Police Commissioner; Precious Owolabi, an NYSC member; and about 11 Shiites members, who were gunned down by the police.

Same treatment was handed to a Biafra secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The group was proscribed and declared a terrorist organization.

“So if break-up is not the solution, why are all the actions they are taking making the break-up inevitable? The Fulani people are doing so many things in the country; they are not doing anything against them. You are doing many things that can break up the country and yet you are saying break-up is not the solution,” Afenifere said.

“What kind of sermon are they preaching? If they are declaring Shi’ites group as terrorists, what act of terrorism have they done? Whereas those who are perpetrating terror in Nigeria, you are giving them money,” the top Yoruba group noted.
