Zamfara disband 8,500 JTF, to employ repentant Fulani bandits to completely end banditry in the state

The Zamfara State Government has agreed to disperse 8,500 Civilian Joint Task Force (Yansakai) recruited by Ex-Governor Abdulaziz Yari to fight bandits in the state.

The decision to disband them was part of the peace deal reached between the state government and repentant bandits who surrender.

The state government would also employ the repentant Fulani bandits to completely end banditry in Zamfara.

The decision was revealed by Abubakar Dauran, the Zamfara State Governor’s aide on Security.

Governor Bello Matawelle had decided to use dialogue to end the killings and kidnapping in the state. The peace agreement is already yielding desired results are about 300 persons had already been freed.

Part of the agreement between the Fulani bandits with the state government was to ensure the release of their brothers captured and the freedom for their people to come out and move freely in the state without being attacked.

Naija Buzz News had reported how the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police asked the leader of the Fulani group in the state to advise his people to surrender their weapons since the farmers and vigilantes were already surrendering to ensure the peace dialogue works.

We also published a video showing one of the Fulani bandit leaders who surrendered saying that soldiers cannot defeat them. He noted that they can only surrender out of their free will, but no one can force them to.

The Zamfara State Government noted that as a reward for surrendering it would recruit those with relevant academic qualifications into the civil service and the illiterate ones would be helped with their cattle breeding businesses.
