Chief of Air Staff decorates Aircraftman who returned missing €37,000 with new rank

Bashir Umar, Air Force personnel who returned 37,000 Euros to owner

The Nigerian Air Force has rewarded Bashir Umar, the Aircraftman who returned 37,000Euros he found during a routine patrol at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, to the owner.

Umar, an operative attached to the NAF Mobile Air Defence Team at the Kano airport, was promoted from Aircraftman to the rank of Corporal by the Nigerian Air Force.

After discovering the package he traced the owner who was identified as Alhaji Ahmad and handed it to him.

Consequently, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, instructed the NAF Chief of Administration to reward him appropriately.

The CAS who decorated him with his new rank noted that Umar displayed an uncommon act of integrity by returning the huge sum to the owner, adding that he exhibited the core values of the Nigerian Air Force.

“We hold Umar in high esteem in the Nigerian Air Force,” CAS Abubakar said at the event in Abuja.

Umar and his parent were conveyed to Abuja where the event in his honour was held. Air Marshal Abubakar thanked his parent for training their son with a good moral value.
