Governorship aspirants under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) allege that the N30billion bailout fund released to the Government of Kogi State under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello could be diverted.
The fund was released by the Federal Government to the state for the payment of workers’ salaries.
There is however fear that Governor Bello could divert the money to finance his reelection bid. The Kogi State Governor hopes to contest the November Governorship poll under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if he emerges winner in the primary election.
The PDP aspirants recalled that in 2015, ahead of the state governorship election, the then governor of the state and PDP candidate in the 2015 election, Capt Idris Wada, had requested for bailout from President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, but he was however denied because it was perceived like he wanted the money to finance his re-election bid.
President Buhari however approved bailout fund for Bello just few months to the state governorship election.
The PDP aspirants including Air Vice Marshal Salia Atawodi (rtd), Mohammed Shaibu, Bayo Averehi and Agberedi, however called on Bello to utilize the fund for the purpose which it was released, saying that workers in the state were suffering.
Some of the PDP aspirants who spoke to Naija Buzz News and other journalists in Abuja noted that if given the opportunity to govern the state, they would create jobs to alleviate poverty and also tackle the challenges of insecurity in Kogi State.
