APC wants National Assembly to takeover Edo and Bauchi House of Assemblies

The National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed support over an alleged plan by the National House of Assembly to take over the Edo and Bauchi National Assemblies.

Naija Buzz News had few weeks ago reported the controversies at the two state legislatures which led to the emergence of principal leaders without the vote of majority members in the house.

We also reported how Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the APC, berated the governors of the state, Godwin Obaseki and Bala Muhammad, over their alleged role in the controversy in their respective states.

In Edo State, we reported how 9 members at the state assembly were inaugurated and how they voted for principal officers in the absence of 15 of their colleagues. The 9 were said to be loyal to the Governor Obaseki, while the remaining are loyal to APC Chairman Oshiomhole who was a former governor of the state.

In Bauchi we reported how minority PDP lawmakers elected the state assembly principal officers in the absence of the majority APC lawmakers.

The development in the two state assemblies has led to crisis in the house as the majority lawmakers who were left out also elected factional principal officers.

While speaking to journalists on Sunday in Abuja, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, noted that Governor Obaseki who is also a Chieftain of the ruling party, must obey the rule of law.

“We would have conveniently dealt with Bauchi because Bauchi is a PDP state and whatever is going on there is not strange because that is what has been in the PDP. We are no longer going to allow it,” the APC spokesman added.

He further berated the Ex-Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, who accused Oshiomhole of responsibility for the crisis in Edo State.

Oyegun had in a statement alleged that Oshiomhole was the architect behind the crisis in Edo because the relationship between him (Oshiomhole) and his god-son (Obaseki) fell out.

According to Oyegun, Obaseki is the only APC governor in the South-South and should consequently be allowed to govern the people instead of the alleged crisis Oshiomhole was causing in the state.

The Ex-APC Chairman noted that Oshiomhole was not only guilty of godfatherism which he was always against, but also anti-party activities.

According to the APC spokesman however, anyone who accuses Oshiomhole for the crisis in Edo because it’s an APC state, might as well accuse him for the crisis in Bauch too.

“If they claim Oshiomhole was responsible for Edo Assembly’s crisis, was he also responsible for the Bauchi Assembly’s crisis? It is convenient to link Oshoimhole because it is Edo. But it is a case of Obaseki versus the rule of law,” the APC spokesman said.
