Residence of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State have raised an alarm over the arrest of youths by the security deployed to apprehend killers of Mrs. Funke Olakunri, the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
Naija Buzz News reported how Mrs. Funke was killed in her car along Ore-Sagamu Expressway while travelling last Friday.
According to residence in the area, the joint task force (soldiers and special police squad from the Inspector-General of Police and the police under the state command) were arresting them, leaving the criminals in the forest who committed the gruesome act.
The residents noted that the security men had been apprehending innocent farmers and other people in the LGA.
Naija Buzz News had reported that Mr. Femi Joseph, the spokesman of the state police command, revealed that some arrests have been made already in connection to the murder of Mrs. Funke.
Our source who prefers to remain unidentified revealed that residents of communities around the forest have being in fear instead of at peace of mind since when the security operatives were deployed to the area following the murder of the Afenifere leader’s daughter.
Our source further noted that instead of doing what they were deployed to do, the security operatives deviate from their main purpose; arresting innocent villagers and anyone they see on the street, instead of the criminals in the forest.
One of the residents who was an eyewitness identified as Ayomide Akinyemi told Punch that many farmers were arrested by the security operatives.
“The security men have been arresting our people. Most of the people arrested are innocent. The criminals are hiding in the forest. The security should go there and arrest them not the innocent farmers that are working in the farm,” Akinyemi said.
The Afenifere group had accused armed Fulani herdsmen for the death of their leader’s daughter. The apex Yoruba group noted that eyewitnesses identified her killers.
The police had however disagreed with the group, saying that until an arrest was made, no one can say who killed Mrs. Funke.
The Presidency had also described her killers as hoodlums, saying that it was wrong to accuse Fulani herdsmen for her death.
