The Inspector General of Police Special Forces has reportedly deployed men to comb forest in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, where bandits had alleged converted to their hideouts.

The men were sent into the forest to apprehend the killers of Chief Reuben Fasoranti’s daughter, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin.

The IGP special operatives will work with the police operatives from the Ondo State Police Command.

Naija Buzz News reported the murder of Mrs. Funke last Friday. Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-political group, had accused Fulani herdsmen for her death. However, since no arrest has been made, it is impossible to say she was killed by Fulani herdsmen.

Mr. Femi Joseph, the spokesman for the state police command, in a statement on Sunday (as sent to Naija Buzz News) revealed that the police had already made some arrests, adding that the killers of Mrs. Funke would be apprehended soon.

Read the statement below in parts;

“We are working with the IGP team. The more we are, the more successful we are. As I am talking to you now, our teams are in the bush and we have made some arrests, but we can’t disclose the number because we are still carrying out some investigations.

“We are combing the entire area. If we find anybody with suspicious movements, such a person will be arrested. We will not rest until all of them are flushed out . Our men are already in the forest in order to get the bandits.

“ The work is going to be very comprehensive. Anybody doing any illegitimate work there will be arrested. We are all out now to flush out the criminals. This is not only taking place in the Odigbo Local Government Area, but also in all the 18 local government areas of the state.”

Afenifere had stated that the police was not making any effort to apprehend Funke’s killers. Naija Buzz News published how the group spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, alleged that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government was not interested in conducting any investigation over her death.
