Afenifere, the top Yoruba socio-political group, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government of not working to end banditry in the South-West like he is doing in the North.
According to the group, Buhari is not showing the commitment and determination he shows to end banditry in the North.
The group further accused the Buhari-led federal government of defending the Fulani herdsmen whom according to it were responsible for the death of people in the South-West, including the recent death of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the second daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
It rebuked the Presidency, particularly Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, who blamed armed bandits for the death of its leader.
Naija Buzz News had reported how Afenifere based on eyewitnesses accused Fulani herdsmen for the death of Mrs. Funke. The police however noted that the identity of her killers were still unknown because no arrest have been made yet.
Afenifere noted that the statement from the presidency was a plot to divert attention from the incident, adding that even the police is not investigating their leader daughter’s death.
Yinka Odumakin, the Afenifere spokesman, said that there is no police on the road and to prove that no investigation is ongoing, the vehicle in which Mrs. Funke was killed is currently parked in her father’s compound.
According to him, the car which was parked at the police station after the attack was eventually taken to her father’s compound because no investigation was going on and they were not interested in actually apprehending the killer Fulani herdsmen in the region.
Odumakin further said that police in the south-west were also reluctant in investigating reports of Fulani herdsmen attack.
He cited an instant were a professor who was attacked by armed Fulani herdsmen was ignored at the police station where he went to report the incident. According to him, no policeman wanted to take his statement, adding that he was asked to go to another station.
However, the Inspector General of Police has deployed a Special Force to comb forest in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, where bandits had alleged converted to their hideouts in search for Mrs. Funke’s killers.
