Dr. Oby Ezekwesili on Saturday, while speaking in Lagos at the 11th Wole Soyinka Centre Media Lecture series, said that President Muhammadu Buhari has shown his incompetence as the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces by the insecurity in the country.
The former Minister of Education stated this while speaking to journalists over the murder of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the second daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of the Afenifere Yoruba socio-political group.
“I think that the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces. If security is failing in the country, that is the fastest way to assess the incompetence that the President has shown so far to an issue that affects the majority of his citizens,” she said.
“I do not think we should mince words and that is why I am not mincing words. We cannot have a President who is comfortable to be in the office, spending the night at the Villa, unconcerned about the type of challenges that we the citizens are facing,” she said while speaking at the lecture organised by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism to mark the 85th birthday of Prof. Wole Soyinka.
Naija Buzz News had published a report on the murder of Mrs. Funke. While the Afenifere socio-political group accused Fulani herdsmen for her death, the State Police Command in a statement issued by its spokesman, Femi Joseph, noted that hoodlum were responsible for her death.
Speaking on the reaction by Nigerians to the Federal Government proposed Ruga settlements, Ezekwesili noted that the responses show that Buhari is ruling a divided country.
“Recently a vexing issue on RUGA took the country by storm and you could see the level of tardiness in which a government handle a matter so polarizing.
“If President didn’t learn anything from RUGA, then we should let him know that RUGA pointed that he’s a President of highly divided country.
“What does it says to us? That the real rethink of everything we have been discussing here today, on credible election.
“President Muhammadu Buhari must now know that it’s now time to invite all necessary parts of this country to a conversation that is deep, introspection, retrospection and radical rethink of how a democracy is constituted for the future,” she stated in her lecture titled ‘Rethinking Credible Elections, Accountable Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria’.
Naija Buzz News published everything you need to know on the controversial proposal for the establishment of Ruga settlement for herders across the country.
