Ex-Gov. Idris Wada’s son declares interest to contest Kogi Governorship Election

Governor Yahaya Bello

Abubakar Ibrahim, the son of former Governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris Wada, has declared his interest to contest the Kogi State Governorship Election in November under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He picked his nomination and expression of interest form from the PDP office in Abuja on Wednesday.

Ibrahim noted that he decided to join the race because the state has decayed in the last three and half years due to bad governance by the Governor Yahaya Bello led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

He spoke about challenges confronting the state which includes; payment of salaries and pension, health, education and others.

Ibrahim further noted that although his ambition is not do-or-die, he promises to fix the issues confronting the state if given the opportunity to govern the state in 2020, adding that he was only interested in having a Kogi State that works.

He will contest for the PDP Governorship Ticket against heavyweights like Senator Dino Melaye who had declared his interest and picked his nomination and expression of interest forms.

Whoever emerges as the PDP candidate among the aspirants might challenge Governor Yahaya Bello of the APC, if he emerges the candidate of the ruling party.

Read Mr. Ibrahim’s statement while speaking to Naija Buzz News correspondent and other journalists in Abuja on Wednesday after he purchased his forms;

“The truth is: most of the aspirants are feeling very jittery. I have not been found wanting, I have not had any issue with anyone. And nobody can concisely say that I have done anything.

“So, my greatest crime now is being my father’s son. And when you look at it critically, even where we borrowed democracy from, George Bush Senior was the 42nd President of the United States of America. George Bush Junior was the 44th President of the United States of America. Nobody had any issue with that.”

“Now let’s come back to Nigeria. Former Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji’s son just became the Speaker of the state house of assembly We have seen situations like that in Kwara State.

“Let’s come back to Kogi State. We have found a situation where not only I being a former governor’s son running for governorship, there are two sons of former governors also running for governorship election. Nobody said anything about that. So, why is mine different? So when you zero down on everything, it just comes down to one thing: fear. Those that are saying it are afraid of my candidature. They are not on the ground.”
