Buhari promotes Ex-Army Commander fighting Boko Haram in the North-East to Lt. Gen., same rank as COAS Buratai

Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, the Chief of Army Training and Operations

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday promoted a former Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force in the Boko Haram ravaged North-East, Nigeria, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, to the rank of a Lieutenant General.

General Adeosun now has the same rank as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.

Only the Army, Air Force and Naval Chiefs had same equivalent ranks of ‘3 star general’.

With the promotion of Gen. Adeosun, the Nigerian Armed Forces now have four 3 star generals in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Report has it that the newly promoted general might take over from the current Army Chief who was appointed in 2015 by President Buhari.

Following his promotion, they were false reports in the media (not on Naija Buzz News) that he had been appointed to replace Gen. Buratai as the COAS.

Naija Buzz News has however confirmed from the Army Spokesman, Col. Sagir Musa, that Gen. Adeosun still remains the former Chief of Army Training and Operations and Lt. Gen. Buratia is still the COAS.

Confirming his promotion, the spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Col. Sagir Musa, in a statement, noted that President Buhari approved his promotion and that of Brig. Gen. Abdulmalik Biu, the GOC 7 Division, to the rank of Major General.

Read the statement issued earlier by Col. Musa on the development;

“The present administration has continued to demonstrate total and unflinching support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the bid to effectively contain the security situation in the country, especially activities of terrorists in the North-East.

“It is in this wise that the President and Commander-in-Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the accelerated promotion of two senior officers and a subaltern of the Nigerian Army.  The officers are granted promotion for their extra-ordinary feats, courage, exemplary leadership, loyalty, uncommon commitment and valour in the counter-insurgency operation in the North-East part of the country.

“The two senior officers are Maj.-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, who has been promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant General and Brig.-Gen Abdulmalik Biu, General Officer Commanding, 7 Division, and Commander, Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maiduguri, promoted to the rank of a Major General. Also, promoted to the rank of a captain is Lieutenant A.J. Danjibrin of 211 Demonstration Battalion, Bauchi.”
