The Imo State Police Command has declared a police Inspector wanted for the murder of a man identified as Ikenna Ukachi.
Ukachi who is 25 was reportedly murder by the inspector on Monday. The ugly incident happened in Otoko community located in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.
Following the incident, youths in the community angrily burnt down the police divisional headquarters.
Rabiu Ladodo, the Imo Police Commissioner, visited the scene of the incident on Tuesday where he told Naija Buzz News that the police was already hunting for the inspector whose whereabouts is currently unknown.
The inspector whose identity is yet to be identified abandoned his rifle. The gun was said to be taken away by the youths in the community.
It also appears like some youths carted away some firearms from the police divisional headquarters it invaded earlier.
The Governor of the State, Emeka Ihedioha, who visited the family of the victim, pleaded with the community to provide the youths who took away guns and other ammunitions from the police headquarter.
“You have a duty to make available those persons that burnt the police station and made away with guns. It is a crime to steal guns and anybody doing it under the guise of retaliation is a criminal and must face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
He also promised to ensure that the police apprehend the fleeing killer police, saying that it is the responsibility of those who carry firearms to protect lives and properties, not to kill those they are meant to protect.
