Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed that he has over 400 witnesses to present before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT).
“We have over 400 witnesses. But if we are able to present up to 300 we will review our case,” Uzukwu told the PEPT.
Atiku and his party, PDP, are challenging the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the February 23 presidential poll.
The former vice president alleges that he is the authentic winner of the poll, saying that the results he obtained from the central server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shows that he won the election with over 1.6million votes.
Dr. Levy Uzoukwu, Atiku and PDP’s lead counsel, earlier today while responding to a question by Justice Mohammed Garba, the judge presiding over the five-man tribunal panel, said that out of the 400 witnesses, if they were able to present 300 before the 14 days ultimatum required for applicants to prove their case, they would review their position.
The presiding judge had asked Uzoukwu how many witnesses they had so that they could arrange a timetable for the hearing of the case.
The court granted a 30 minutes recess for them to decided on the witnesses they would bring in order to plan the hearing timetable appropriately following Mr. Uzukwu’s request.
