Zamfara Police Commissioner orders Miyetti Allah to end banditry in 2 weeks. Fulani leader responds

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu

Usman Nagogo, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, has given the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association two weeks to end banditry activities in the state.

Nagogo gave the order earlier today at a reconciliation meeting between Fulani herdsmen and farmers held in Gusua. The Police Commissioner revealed that volunteer groups have so far surrendered over 9,000 weapons as part of its contribution to the peace process. But the Fulani herdsmen were yet to comply.

Consequently, he asked the leader of Miyetti Allah to call Fulani herders to order or they face the wrath of the law.

He further blamed the Fulani leaders for all the gruesome killings and banditry activities in Zamfara State, saying that they have not done enough to call their people to order.

Alhaji Ahmed Mutawalle, the leader of the Fulani in Zamfara State, in his reaction to the police commissioner statement said that his people are peace loving people.

According to him, Fulani herdsmen were subjected to intimidations and harassment by farmers.

He further noted that the farmers encroached and cultivated on grazing lands and routes meant for the herdsmen, adding that refusal by the farmers to vacate the lands led to the clashes, which eventually led to banditry.

The Fulani leader alleged that farmers initially attack Fulani herdsmen which led to reprisal attacks by the herders.

Alhaji Mutawalle noted that the current armed banditry could only be stopped if the government steps in and force farmers out of grazing lands and allows herdsmen to move freely with their cattle.
