President Buhari appoints new NNPC GMD; removes Maikanti Baru

Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari, the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mele Kolo Kyari as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Kyari who will officially take over from Dr. Maikanti Baru, will serve as NNPC’s 18th GMD.

Baru served as the 17th NNPC GMD from July 4th 2016 – July 8th, 2019 when he’ll handover officially.

Buhari also appointed 7 new Chief Operating Officers (COO) alongside Mr. Kyari.

Kyari prior to his appointment served as the Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of NNPC. He was also the country’s representative to the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The new development was announced earlier today by Ndu Ughamadu, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, of NNPC.

According to him, President Buhari directed the newly appointed to work together with previous occupiers of the offices until July 8, 2019, when their appointments would begin officially.

The 7 newly appointed COOs are; Mr. Roland Onoriode Ewubare (South-South) – Chief Operating Officer, Upstream; Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu (North Central) – Chief Operating Officer Refining and Petrochemicals; Yusuf Usman (North East) – Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power; and Lawrencia Nwadiabuwa Ndupu (South East), Chief Operating Officer Ventures; Umar Isa Ajiya (North West) – Chief Financial Officer; Adeyemi Adetunji (South West) – Chief Operating Officer, Downstream; and Farouk Garba Said (North West) – Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services.

The NNPC speaking on Mr. Kyari said that the Crude Oil Marketing Division under his leadership recorded transformation.
