Speaker Gbajabiamila meets Osinbajo, says he would carry opposition PDP along under his leadership

Femi Gbajabiamila

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the National House of Representatives, has promised to work with opposition lawmakers.

The Speaker stated this while speaking to State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

“Committees will be unfolded in the next few weeks and you will see how we intend to carry the opposition along,” he said.

His position is however against the instructions of his party. The All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, had before the National Assembly elections warned party lawmakers against working with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Oshiomhole further said that all committee chairmanship positions would be given to only members of the APC, adding that the PDP would only get what is due to it (which is the position of minority leader etc).

He further noted that his meeting with Osinbajo was about how to make life better for Nigeria and Nigerians, adding that their discussion centred on tackling the problems confronting the nation.

“We discussed how the executive and the legislature can collaborate to make life better for Nigeria and Nigerians.

Gbajabiamila who was the majority leader in the previous assembly under the leadership of former Speaker Yakubu Dogara said that the House would build on the achievements of the 8th Assembly.
