PDP commends EU EOM report on the 2019 general elections; says report shows poll was rigged

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially responded to the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) report on the 2019 general elections.

The strongest opposition party in its response issued on Sunday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, commended the EU EOM for stating the facts on the elections.

Naija Buzz had reported how the EU body in its report stated that the election was generally marred with shortcomings and irregularities.

The group revealed that the 2019 general elections were “marked by severe operational and transparency shortcomings, electoral security problems and low turnout.”

According to the PDP, the report vindicated the position of the PDP and Nigerians on the last concluded elections.

“Nigerians are still in shock over the revelations by EU of how about 2.8 million votes were deliberately “cancelled without sufficient accountability” and how several returning officers gave no reason for the cancellations,” the PDP spokesman said.

He further noted that the revelation by the EU body shows that the poll was rigged and millions of PDP votes were annulled without reasons.

Mr. Ologbondiyan further add that it was still unbelievable how “a large discrepancy of 1.66 million more registered voters, as announced by INEC on January 14, compared to those announced by state returning officers during the collation of presidential results.”

The PDP alleged that states returning officers were unable to reconcile figures due to heavy manipulations.

“The report on result forms did not reconcile how result forms were not publicly posted, how “result forms and smart card readers were not packed in tamper-evident envelops as required,” Ologbondiyan said.

He further said that the report exposed how the nation’s security forces were used by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government to intimidate PDP voters.

The PDP noted that the report has boasted the confidence of Nigerians to retrieve its alleged stolen mandate at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The party further urged Nigerians to stay calm as the truth continues to unfold, adding that those sabotaging the sanctity of the nation’s electoral system in a bid to frustrate the choice of Nigerians must be brought to book to face the law.
