The number of political parties caused a lot of logistics problems in the 2019 general elections – INEC

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu

Mallam Mohammed Haruna, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Commissioner in charge of Kwara, Kogi and Nasarawa North-Central States, has revealed that the large number of political parties that participated in the last general elections caused a lot of logistics problem for INEC.

According to him, 76 political parties contested the presidential election.

“We underestimated the kind of logistical problem to expect.

“By the time these materials started arriving, we realise that it was a huge logistical problem.

“We are lucky, we had the Nigerian Air Force to help with the movement of the materials, they have always been helping us,” he stated while speaking with journalists earlier today in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He further called for the review of the Electoral Act and the Constitution to reduce the number of political parties.
