Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has asked the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, to apologies publicly to him and the entire people of the state.
Ganduje said that the Emir must apologies for dragging the Emirate Council into politics as part of the reconciliation process.
“It is very important to state that for the reconciliation to yield the desired result, Emir Sanusi has the moral burden to publicly apologise to Governor Ganduje and the entire people of Kano State for dragging the revered Kano Emirate into the murky water of politics.,” Mallam Muhammed Garba, Ganduje’s ex-commissioner for Information, said.
Also as part of the reconciliation process, Emir Sanusi is expected to recognise the newly created emirs and emirates.
Naija Buzz had few weeks ago reported how the governor in an apparent bid to reduce the influence of the Kano Emir decentralised his 800 year old emirate by creating 4 new emirates and emirs.
The Kano High Court had ordered the governor to stop the creation of the emirs and emirates, but the order was however not complied with. The governor in his response to the court said that the order came late because it was already done before the court order reached him.
If the development stands, the Kano Emir is expected to assume a position of the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Emirs.
Governor Ganduje also said that the embattled emir has the moral burden to withdraw all court cases against the Government of Kano State as part of the reconciliation to yield positive result.
