A 20 year old kidnapper identified as Sani Haruna (aka Gayu) has confessed that he has lost number of persons he had killed for failing to pay ransom.
The suspect who is a father of two was arrested by the Inspector General of Police Special Tactical Team led by DCP Kolo and DCP Abba Kyari, the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team.
His duty was to killed victims whose relatives were unable to raise ransom for their freedom. He noted that he never took part in the kidnapping.
“My name is Sani Haruna. I am the guard for kidnapped persons where they were kept in the bush in Katsina State. I have been doing that for one year. Before joining this, I was a herdsman. It was from herding cows that I was invited to be guarding kidnapped victims by one of the commanders,” he said in Hausa (as translated by Vanguard).
He revealed that he had lost count of the number of persons he had killed since he joined the gang. He however said in all honesty that he had killed many.
According to him, he killed the victims because his superiors threatened to kill him if he refuses to kill them.
Haruna also revealed that among the gang, there is a mallam in-charge of burying the victims according to Islamic rites.
“The mallam will prepare them according to Islamic rites, pray for their souls and we will bury them properly,” he said.
The suspect however begged the government to give him a second chance so that he could join hands with security agencies to hunt kidnappers.
