Kano State Government orders Kano Emir to respond to N3.4billion fraud allegation

Mohammed Sanusi, the Emir of Kano

The Kano State Government has instructed the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to respond to the allegation of financial misappropriation against him within 48 hours.

Naija Buzz had few days ago published a report by the Kano State Anti-graft commission accusing Sanusi of N3.4billion fraud and recommending his suspension pending the completion of the investigation.

Consequently, the state government in a query signed by Usman Alhaji, the Secretary to the State Government, asked the emir to speak on the allegations against him.

Few weeks ago we published how Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano State, decentralised the 800 year old Kano Emirate in an alleged attempt to reduce the emir’s influence.

He created 4 new emirates with emirs in Kano, leaving Sanusi in control of 8 local government areas out of the 44 LGAs in the state.

Report has it that the move was a vendetta against Sanusi for supporting the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election held in Kano State.

The governor had since denied the claim, saying that he had nothing against the emir. He however shockingly added that the emir who is considered the strongest monarch after the Sultan of Sokoto is suppose to be reporting to a Local Government Chairman, not a governor.
