At least 25,794 Nigerians were killed in various violent crises that occurred in President Muhammadu Buhari first term in office.
The figure was contained in a report released by the Nigeria Security Tracker.
The huge figure includes those killed in the Boko Haram insurgence in the North-East, herdsmen and most shocking and heartbreaking of all the extrajudicial killings by the Nigerian military.
Zamfara state alone recorded about 1,963 deaths due to banditry, while Borno and Adamawa States recorded 9,303 and 1,529 deaths due to terrorism.
Benue State recorded 1,642 deaths due to activities of armed herdsmen and Kaduna State following with 1,488 deaths caused by ethnic clashes.
According to the group, the military is alleged responsible for the death of 4,068 people (including the deaths of hundreds of Shiite Muslims in Zaria).
The group noted that it relied on media reports to produce the data, but however revealed that there are limitations in the reports of violence.
It further added that there is a political manipulation of the media which causes dearth of accurate reporting.
Under Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan from May 29, 2011 – May 29, 2015, a total of 34,884 people were killed across the nation.
The figure is over 9,000 higher than President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Buhari was recently inaugurated for his second term in office on May 29.
