The National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole

Report has it that the state chapters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are divided over the call for the resignation of the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

Naija Buzz had few days ago reported how the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, called for the resignation of Oshiomhole. In the leaked letter we published on Naija Buzz, Mr. Shuaibu said that the APC Chairman does not possess the required experience or capabilities to run a political party.

Following the call for him to resign, the state chapters of the ruling party are now divided with some in support of the Deputy National Chairman.

According to report, the APC in Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Osun, Enugu, Abia, Katsina states have kicked against Senator Shuaibu’s call.

However, other states like Imo and Sokoto have declared their support for Mr. Shuaibu’s call.

“I am in full support of the call for the resignation of Adams Oshiomhole as our national chairman. He has overstayed his welcome. Under his leadership, we have lost many seats and positions to the PDP,” Imo State APC Chairman, Daniel Nwafor, said.

APC Chairman in Sokoto State, Alhaji Sadiq Achida, also condemned Oshiomhole’s leadership, saying that he is destroying the party.

“The APC in Sokoto State is a victim of the national chairman of our party’s I don’t-care-attitude and negligence. His attitude has ridiculed us and festered impunity and disaffection in the party,” Alhaji Achida said.

However, the Oyo State Chapter of the party supports Oshiomhole’s leadership. Their support came despite the position of the party’s chieftain in the state, Mr. Adebayo Shittu.

Mr. Shittu who is the Minister for Communication had vehemently condemned his party chairman following his expulsion from contesting the Oyo State APC Governorship primary election in 2018.

Oshiomhole had stop Shittu from contesting because of his alleged NYSC issue.

“The deputy national chairman has gone beyond his brief because he has the party mechanism to channel his misgivings about how the party is run. The party’s constitution does not give room for just any officer of the party to make its internal affairs public at the drop of a pin,” the Oyo State Publicity Secretary, Abdulazeez Olatunde, said.

“Mr Shuaibu needs to learn how to be a team player. There are mid-term conventions where the suitability of X, Y, Z continuation in offices are holistically appraised. If Mr Shuaibu is desirous of the national chairmanship, he should wait till then,” he added in support of Oshiomhole.
