A traditional ruler, Chief Paulinus Ogbor, has been arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command for conspiring with one Onugh, a retired police officer, to steal 3 transformers belonging to Umuolo, Etana, Ubum, Edu, Ibini, Afono, Urugbam, Ipene and Egbor communities in Cross River State.
The monarch who is the ruler of Ipene in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State was apprehended with his accomplice around 11am on Friday while trying to move the transformer to where they were to be sold.
DSP Loveth Odah, the Public Relation Officer of the Ebonyi Police Command, confirmed that the 2 suspects were arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Army in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
They lied to the soldiers that the officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company were aware of their action. The traditional ruler lied that the transformers were under his care, saying that the contractor wanted to carry them.
After they were apprehended, the soldiers handed them over to the headquarters of the police command in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
The 2 suspects were eventually taken to the police command in Cross River for further investigation.
