The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, has revealed that contrary to reports on media (not Naija Buzz) the Federal Government did give any money to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.
Dambazau while speaking to journalists on Monday in Zamfara State however admitted that a meeting was held between Miyetti Allah and the Federal Government in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State.
The retired general noted that rumours that money was given to the group were just fabrications by mischief makers.
“Let me state categorically that during our meeting with members of the Miyetti Allah representatives, no issue of money was discussed at all, not to talk about giving them any.
“We did not give them even one kobo, the information being spread is the fabrication of mischief makers trying to divert from the matter facing us, which is the killing of innocent citizens.
“My visit to Zamfara today is in furtherance of that meeting to discuss with stakeholders and as you have seen, we are on course and confident that the issue of banditry in all the affected states is coming to an end,” he said.
There was report on media (not Naija Buzz) last week that FG gave N100billion to the group to stop the killings of innocent Nigerians.
The former Chief of Army Staff also urged farmers to go about their farming activities because government would provide adequate security for them.
The Emir of Zamfara State, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, had urged governments to do more in tackling the insecurity in the state before the bandits starts invading major towns.
According to the Emir, something serious must be done because at the moment, there are more than 16,000 Internally displaced persons in the state.
He had last week revealed that despite intervention by the military, bandits still wreak havoc.
