Former Senate President David Mark on Sunday during a thanksgiving service held at the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Otukpo, Benue State, said that he is retiring from active politics to become a peace ambassador for Benue State and Nigeria.
Senator Mark expressed gratitude to his people for the support given to him for the past 20 years.
He also begged his people to forgive him for the mistakes he made in the course of his 20 years in the Senate.
“When I came back in 1998 after my exile, I went round all the parts of my senatorial district and this I have done to appreciate the support of the people since the last 20 years,” Senator Mark said at his thanksgiving service.
“It is through the support you gave to me that made it possible for me to be the longest-serving senator who contested six times and won six times.
“In the course of my political career, I may have made certain mistakes, those mistakes were not from the heart but from the head. Therefore, I should be forgiven and I hope at the end of the day, history will be kind to me.
“Now that I have retired from active service, I will devote my time to be a peace ambassador for my senatorial district, Benue State and for Nigeria,” he noted.
Top dignitaries who attended the thanksgiving service include the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom; former Minister of Interior and now senator-elect, Abba Moro and others.
