Killings in the north is more under Buhari than Ex-President Goodluck – Northern Elders

President Muhammadu Buhari

Prof. Ango Abdullahi, the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, has expressed worry over the spate of insecurity in the country.

According to Abdullahi, President Muhammadu Buhari is not doing enough to tackle the situation.

His statement came while reacting to the statement issued by the presidency over the kidnap of the District Head of Daura, Alhaji Musa Uba, who is Buhari’s in-law.

Naija Buzz had published how Mr. Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Adviser to Buhari on Media and Publicity, reacted to the kidnapping of Buhari’s District Head.

The presidency had stated that the kidnap of Buhari’s in-law was an indication that he (Buhari) did not give special attention to his hometown, adding that killings under previous government was worst than it is now.

Prof. Abdullahi however in his reaction to the statement by the presidency said that the security issues in the north was worse under Buhari than it was during the administration of Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

“I don’t understand what the reaction from the Presidency is expected to convey to the public.

“They (Presidency) should be concerned that the security failures are everywhere, including the hometown  of the President.

“Obviously there is more insecurity in the North today than during Jonathan’s leadership,” Prof. Abdullahi told Punch.

The Northern Elders Forum added that President Buhari lack the political will to effectively secure lives and properties of citizens.

“The President has the responsibility to face these challenges. The President, according to what we know of  the Nigerian structure and the constitution and the instrument of power, he has the instrument to deal with the challenges,” he said.
