CCT convicts suspended CJN Onnoghen, banned him from holding public office for 10 years

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen

Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), has convicted suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

He ruled that Onnoghen was found guilty of non asset declaration.

Consequently, the CCT ordered him to forfeit the funds in the five accounts which he was accused of not declaring.

According to the CCT Onnoghen fraudulently acquired the funds in the account since he failed to show how the same amount was gotten.

Consequently, the Tribunal invoked the full provision of Section 23 of the Code of Conduct law which allows it to remove the CJN from office.

He is also banned from holding public office for the next ten years.

Naija Buzz had reported that Onnoghen had weeks ago resigned from office following the conclusion of investigation by the National Judicial Council (NJC) which recommended his retirement to President Muhammadu Buhari.
