I am a product of rape, but i never hated my father for raping my mother – Helen Paul

Comedian Helen Paul

Popular celebrity, Helen Paul, had few days ago revealed that she was a product of rape.

Helen made this shocking revelation while celebrating a doctorate degree in Theatre Arts she recently got from the University of Lagos.

Helen who dedicated her degree to her mum revealed on social media that she was regarded as a bastard in her family because she was a product of rape.

“I, Helen Paul, dedicate this to my mum, you gave birth to me out of rape, they told you I wouldn’t amount to anything. “I grew up hearing from family members; being called a “Bastard” and each time I asked you, you said `Olorun lon wo omo were, Olorun ma wo e’.

“Meaning God watches over the child of a mad person, he’ll watch over you. Mummy, I want you to know I love you; I might not buy you Benz now because I don’t have a `Pant’ yet but this certificate will amount to something great.

“They say Fame is nothing but Grace is everything and I pray for grace in everything I do. I’m not a Cele member but Late Oshofa gave me the name and everything Late Oshofa said about Helen Paul is coming to pass.

“I dedicate this to every mother, may God make you strong enough to survive and enjoy the fruit of your labour,” she stated.

Why i revealed the truth and how i feel about my father

“I chose the occasion to reveal the story of my birth because I dedicated the degree to my mother. There is time for everything and I felt it was time to tell the world. Apparently, it’s not even my story; it’s my mother’s. I am humbled and grateful to God for seeing me through the programme. Everyone was happy for me in my family. Even when I finished secondary school, everyone was excited for me. We celebrate each other in my household,” she said (as seen on Punch)

She however noted that despite what her father did, she had never held any grudge against him.

“I am on good terms with my father. Is there anyone who doesn’t have a cordial relationship with his or her father? That can only happen if you are a terrible child. Regardless of what your father might have done to you in the past, your father remains your father. If I said I was not affected by it while growing up, that wouldn’t be honest. It could affect anyone but I used my situation to my advantage. It inspired me to always do more and be the best, instead of being depressed,” she added.

Speaking about her love for learning she said; “I like to learn; so, I will keep learning. Tomorrow, don’t be surprised if you see me learning tailoring or hairdressing.  However, there was a time I really wanted to give up while studying for my doctorate degree but I had the right people around me. In life, you cannot do it on your own; you need certain people around you to achieve greatness.”
