Amosun will not work against APC anointed candidate – Aide

Governor Ibukunle Amosun

An undisclosed aide to Governor Ibukunle Amosun of Ogun State has debunked rumours that the governor was plotting to work against Senator Ahmad Lawan, the anointed candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for senate presidency.

According to the aide, his boss is not an anti-party person, saying that he (Amosun) would respect the decision of his party for the leadership of the National Assembly.

“He is not an anti-party person,” the aide told Punch.

The aide’s position is however contrary to what happened during the build-up of the 2019 Ogun Governorship election.

Amosun rejected the governorship candidate of the APC and supported his own anointed candidate in the election.

Amosun’s aide however insisted that talks about his boss working against APC were just mere insinuations.

“My governor is a card-carrying member of the APC and not just a governor in the party but a founding member of the APC . He is a leader of the APC in Ogun.

“The alleged meeting between my governor and Shettima is part of the induction meetings. Nobody should attach anything to it. They are sitting governors and senators-elect. Every senator-elect is free to interact. Why are people talking about it; don’t they not have the right to interact?

“Don’t let us give room for people to insinuate. He is for the people and he is not going to do anything against the people.”

“He is not an anti-party person. Have you seen him making any statement?

“I can assure you that he is for the people, he is not an anti-party person.”
